PNP(Provincial Nominee Program)

A Gateway to Global Opportunities

Canada's provincial nominee programs (PNPs) offer a pathway to Canadian permanent residence for individuals who are interested in immigrating to a specific Canadian province or territory. Each Canadian province and territory operates its own PNP designed to meet its specific economic and demographic needs.

Under Canada's Constitution, the federal government and each province and territory share the authority to manage the country's immigration system. As such, the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) allows Canadian provinces and territories to nominate individuals who wish to immigrate to Canada and who are interested in settling in a particular province.

The system manages three main federal economic programs:

- Have the skills, education, and work experience to contribute to the economy of a specific province or territory
- want to live in that province, and
- want to become permanent residents of Canada

Each province and territory has its own “streams” (immigration programs that target certain groups) and requirements. For example, in a program stream, provinces and territories may target:

- Students
- Business people
- Skilled workers
- Semi-skilled workers

Provinces in Canada

Canada has ten provinces and three territories. Each province and territory has its capital city.

  • Alberta(AAIP): The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP), formerly the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program, is an economic immigration program that nominates people for permanent residence in Alberta. Nominees must have skills to fill job shortages or be planning to buy or start a business in Alberta. They must also be able to provide for their families. The program is run by the governments of Alberta and Canada.

  • British Columbia(BC PNP): The BC Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) is an economic immigration program administered by the Government of British Columbia’s Immigration Programs Branch. The program enables the province to select and nominate foreign workers, international students, and entrepreneurs to help meet B.C.’s labor market needs, support government priorities, and help grow B.C.’s economy. If you are nominated, you and your family can apply to IRCC to become a permanent resident of Canada.

  • Manitoba(MPNP): The Manitoba Work Experience Pathway of the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) will target skilled temporary workers in Manitoba who wish to settle in Manitoba as permanent residents. If you are currently working in Manitoba with a temporary work permit or post-graduate work Permit, the Manitoba Work Experience Pathway could be your route to Canadian permanent resident status.

  • New Brunswick: The New Brunswick Skilled Worker Stream is designed for Foreign Nationals who possess the skills, education, and work experience needed to contribute to New Brunswick’s economy. Candidates must meet the program’s minimum eligibility requirements, have a genuine offer of employment from a New Brunswick Employer, and have the full intent to live and work in the province on a permanent basis.

  • Newfoundland and Labrador: The Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program is an economic immigration program designed to assist skilled immigrants and their families to come and live and work in Newfoundland and Labrador. Applicants must meet certain criteria such as having a job or job offer, the ability to economically establish, and the intent to reside in the province, to be nominated for permanent residency.

  • Northwest Territories(NTNP): The Northwest Territories Nominee Program (NTNP), a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), is a collection of immigration pathways that provide an opportunity for foreign nationals to become Canadian permanent residents. The NTNP targets workers in skilled, semi-skilled, and low-skilled occupations through employer-driven immigration streams. Its business-driven counterpart, on the other hand, seeks entrepreneurs and business owners from all sectors to create and establish new businesses in this remote northern region.

  • Nova Scotia(NSNP): The Nova Scotia Nominee Program (NSNP) targets prospective immigrants who have the skills and experience to boost the province’s economy and tackle demographic challenges. Candidates who meet the criteria of one of nine different streams can be nominated for Nova Scotia immigration, with a target processing time of three months.

  • Ontario(OINP): The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) is the province’s economic immigration program. It works in partnership with the Government of Canada through Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). Foreign workers, international students, and others with the right skills, experience, and education apply to the OINP for a nomination. The OINP recognizes and nominates people for permanent residence who have the skills and experience the Ontario economy needs, and the Government of Canada makes the final decision to approve applications for permanent residence.

  • Prince Edward Island: If you are seeking permanent residency in Prince Edward Island, one pathway is to be nominated to the federal government through the PEI Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). Individuals are selected for nomination based on their intention to live and work in PEI and their economic ability to establish here. At this time, priority will be given to entrepreneurs and to individuals qualified to work in areas with identified skill shortages in the PEI labor market.

  • Saskatchewan(SINP): The Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) is a way to immigrate to Canada. Through the SINP, the Province of Saskatchewan: Invites residency applications from non-Canadians who want to make Saskatchewan their home. Nominates successful applicants to the federal government for permanent residency in Canada.

  • Yukon: The Yukon Nominee Program accepts applications for nominee candidates both inside and outside of Canada.
